Synopsis

Cliff and Cydney are exploratory newlyweds on their honeymoon hiking to a very remote and beautiful beach in Hawaii. They start second guessing their excursion when they come across a group of frightened hikers talking about a vicious murder of another newlywed couple on the islands. Cliff and Cydney end up meeting two other couples and at this point everyone seems suspect and their perfect paradise  doesn’t seem like the perfect getaway anymore.

Review

You know, there really weren’t a lot of previews for this movie, but what little I did see, I knew who the killers were right away. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but TOOT TOOT! Regardless, A Perfect Getaway is still a very intense and good movie. The characters are interesting. Well, the ones that weren’t your typical stock characters that is. And the islands are just gorgeous to look at too.

Getaway brings a newly married couple, Cliff (Steve Zahn) and Cydney, (Milla Jovovich) who are so in love, to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They are so excited to visit all the islands and go hiking to a remote beach with only two ways in and out and that’s by foot or by kayak. Their honeymoon just happens to be taking place while two brutal killers are on the loose –one a man and one a woman. The killers murdered a young couple by butchering them. Um… okay. This isn’t sounding too good. If I found this out, I’d be real nervous.

Cliff and Cydney aren’t too sure whether they should stay and keep hiking or go back. Uh, duh! GO BACK fools! They meet up with 2 other sets of couples and now they don’t know if any one of these people could be the psycho-killers.

The characters are pretty good. They all have some kind of story and they're interesting people. Steve Zahn always looks like a goofball or a nerd in films, but he really did his thing in Getaway. Milla showed some of her acting chops too.

Getaway is a good enough thriller for me. It takes some time to get to the meat of the action, but once it developes it's pretty decent. Especially, when mixed with the suspense. Hey, on a budget of 14 million I was entertained, thrilled, satisfied and all those adjectives that go a long with the opposite of being bored. You know, if you’re unsure at least rent it when it comes out on DVD. It’s a good Friday night DVD movie for sure. I liked it. As always peoples, it’s up to you.
