Synopsis

A blue-collar auto-mechanic (Idris Elba, The Wire) receives help from a beautiful up-tight, and very successful Ivy League attorney (Gabrielle Union, Breakin\' All the Rules) to get custody of his 3 daughters from his very mean and evil ex-wife. As time goes on, the two realize that their feelings have grown for one another regardless of their distinctly different backgrounds. They can’t deny the love which blossoms while trying to survive through secrets, baby’s momma drama, financial difficulty and separate cultural environments.

Review

No Madea in this flick. New and fresh characters grace this movie. This film definitely wasn’t made to win any Oscars or Golden Globes, but it will satisfy Tyler Perry’s (Madea's Family Reunion) key audience. It is another feel good movie with a moralistic message. Mother, Grandmamma, and Auntie will be happy to see this movie. I adore Tyler Perry's movies. I truly do, but I wonder if any of his future films won't have the typical underlining theme of the single good black woman needing a man, the thuggish ruggish man, the womanizer, the loud mouth sista, the patient, loving, and cute man, and the just down right crazies. Talk to me Tyler. Will there be new type of characters we can really sink our teeth into? Daddy's Little Girls had almost all of these archetypes. The plot description below gives some of them.

Daddy's Little Girlsis about Monty (Idris Elba, This Christmas) a hardworking mechanic who struggles to raise his three daughters alone, trying to protect them from his ex-wife Jennifer (Tasha Smith, Why Did I Get Married), a gold digging, drug-dealing, poor excuse for a mother. His money is funny and his ex fights him tooth and nails with her druglord boyfriend, who is the community’s nemesis, to get custody of the children out of spite.

By the grace of God, Monty meets Julia (Gabrielle Union, The Brothers amp Bad Boys 2) a high-powered attorney who ends up representing him and falling in love with the man. Her snobbish friends don’t approve, even Julia has lots of hang-ups, but true love and attraction certainly overshadows any negatives and there are a lot of negatives. This man has three girls by a straight up b****.

This is a feel good movie and Tyler Perry compensates with an amateurish script with his great casting. It’s a good thing, because the believability with parts of the story leaves MUCH to be desired. I was entertained and pleasantly happy with this film. It's a really nice film to bust open some chips to.
