Watch the TrailerI had no expectations of this movie going in. I just said, “Okay, I’m going to see G.I. Joe.” So, I lacked any disappointment because it didn’t happen to be the action movie of the summer. It actually was a little better than what I thought it would be after seeing the trailer. So, I really wasn’t bored.
G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra trails two American soldiers, Duke (Channing Tatum, Fighting) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans, Dance Flick), who join the G.I. Joe Team after being ambushed by a wicked Cobra troop. Their main mission is to retrieve warheads from the Cobra Troop to stop their operation of destruction to the world. The Joes are the best operatives in the world and this team is assembled because a threat like this has never been faced.
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought a crucial component to a film was its acting. I’m just saying because the acting was –YAWN-- straight up jive in G.I. Joe. I guess when it comes to an action film it doesn’t matter anymore. Channing is a pretty face, but has no skills as an actor. Homedude can’t act worth a dizzy dayum. He was so stiff, and had no chemistry with his cast mates. It was like mixing peanut butter and dill pickles together. I thought a Joe had to have swagger, Çhanning had no kind of swag.

The special effects were wonderful and seeing it on a big screen did my eyes good. I know they had to spend a grip on this film. Some of the CG looked a bit fake looking at times, but what can you do? Those scenes were very minimal and everything else looked fantastic.
The Joes did have these cool special million-dollar accelerator suits that allowed them to run and jump faster and pretty much make them indestructible. Duke and Ripcord kicked it in these suits.
The battle and action scenes were crazy. Snake Eyes (Raymond Park, Fanboys) and Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun, Heros) have a good combat scene. Snake Eyes has a good part except you never see his face or hear his voice. The actor’s poor mother, she can’t even see her baby’s face so she can brag to all of her girlfriends that her son is in a big blockbuster.
The flick had some corny Hollywood one-liners, jive dialogue, and an unnecessary cameo from Brenden Frazier. Good thing the fight scenes, special effects and action made up for it.
I guess G.I Joe couldn’t take itself too seriously or it would have been awful! I know the 12-year-old boys were LOVING the film. It’s cool for them. Don't feel bad if you miss it at the theater. Just rent it when it comes out.
