Watch the TrailerFirst of all the title alone is hilarious. The title, say it with me, "Hot Tub Time Machine" made me want to go and see it and so did Craig Robinson (Zack and Miri Makes a Porno, NBC's The Office). There is just something about Craig that makes me crack up just looking at his face or facial expressions. And when he begins ad-libbing on whatever, I begin rolling. I'm sure one day soon, he'll be the lead actor in a comedy and rightfully so. He deserves it.
Okay, Hot Tub Time Machine is straight up a boys/man-child movie, however, I was laughing too. Ya'll know I love these silly movies.
Three buds made a straight up hot mess out of their lives. Adam (John Cusack, 2012) has gotten kicked to the curb by yet another one of his girlfriends. His nerdy video game obsessed nephew, Jacob (Clark Duke, Superbad) lives in his basement. His friend Lou (Rob Corddry, What Happens in Vegas) is at his darkest moment and tries to kill himself. And Nick (Craig Robinson), well, his job is jive and his wife has no respect for him. Frankly, I think she wears the pants in their marriage. All the guys go to Kodiak Valley Ski Resort to reminisce about good times from way back in the day to cheer Lou up and of course to get their mojos back.
These fools get their drink on, jump in the resort's hot tub, black out and come to and realize they're in 1986. Oh yes, big hair, Cyndi Lauper clothes, leg warmers and all the wild colors. My question is, why did that awful look ever come back? For some of you who haven't noticed that look is back in full-force. It started coming back last year and truthfully, I don't like it much. Not everyone's shape can rock some of the eighties gear. MMM!

Anyhoo, the dudes have to make sure they don't do anything stupid in 1986 to mess up 2010 -- present day. Well, ya'll know these kinds of time machine movies. There is always some type of chaos, climax and craziness that goes on to get back to present day. There are no loose ends in Hot Tub, which is great. This film is silly as heck and surely not for everyone and it doesn't try to be. That's the beauty about Hot Tub. It is what it is and I get that and ain't mad at all about it. Hot Tub knows its audience and that's all you can ask from it. Remember, it is rated-R.
