Review

Hmm. I don’t know what to say about this film? It’s somewhat twisted just like the writer/director Quentin Tarantino. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. There’s tons of violence, different chapters and stories going on that all come together in the end like usual Tarantino style.

Ingorious Basterds is somewhat very unique because it’s an alternate history set back during World War II. I don’t quite think a war has been seen like this. This film is set in a Nazis-occupied France during World War II and portrays a plan to murder the Nazis power. The Inglorious Basterds drop into France dressed, as civilians or German soldiers to be merciless to the Germans. They are field with vengeance, rage and it’s all towards the Nazis. They go a scalping Nazis. They aren’t in the prisoner taking business they're in the killing Nazis business as Lt. Aldo Raines (Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) would say. Aldo orgaizes this group of Jewish American soldiers.

Brad Pitt’s accent was so silly. He had this straight up country…no…CUUHNTREE accent and he was serious about his scalping Nazis business. Brad did fine in this film. I do feel that he has a huge fan base, so putting him in this picture will draw a nice crowd; however, the true champ in this flick is Christoph Waltz as Standartenfuhrer Hans Landa aka “The Jew Hunter” is funny, crazy, evil, and has a tongue about him. He finds a way to go on and on and on and you just know something is up. And he certainly is good at his job of finding Jews in France. He is just a mean and shady man.

You go boy. He played his role so well I can’t picture anyone else in it. Oh, wait. I just did. I pictured Tim Roth (The Incredible Hulk). I actually believe he could pull this part off too. Anyhoo, there are times when Hans Landa was eating some kind of desert and UGH I just wanted to pimp slap him. It was some of the small things he did that just worked my nerves and Waltz played him brilliantly.

There are massive amounts of characters that are introduced, although, it’s not hard to keep track of them because many are given nicknames and I love that. It helps you associate the names with a character and perhaps even a back-story.

Now, elsewhere in Europe Shoshanna Drefus (Melanie Laurent, The Killer) sees the bloody execution of her entire family headed up by the Colonel Hans Landa. He's everywhere isn't he? Anyhoo, Shoshanna kicks it to Paris and gets a new identity.

Tarantino takes movies to a different level. There is so much I can say about him. He’s the type of writer/director you just have to get and if you don’t get him, just go with it because you might get his work later.

Just like in Inglorious Basterds he brings such a distinctive style that keeps you on your toes. Sometimes the dialogue and a scene just goes on forever to the point where I’m thinking, “Come on now. Just get to the point.” One scene feels like an hour -- just the banter back and forth.

He is very detailed. I mean there is like no cutting out one word – if, and, or but. He has to have full blown out explanations and stories. Quentin must not like holding back one word. It seems like he wrote this script and he said to leave as is and don’t change anything. Edits be dayumed. There are a good five chapters that Tarantino puts together in this film and each one has a purpose.

I really liked his use of sound too. I thought the crescendo of music at certain moments in the scenes was spot on. It started to get me very anxious because I knew something was about to happen. My heart started pounding. That was good – very good!

I would not recommend this film to people who don’t like seeing a lot of violence. It's quite brutal. If you are a fan of Quentin Tarantino, you’ll be truly satisfied with Inglorious Basterds. You might find this to be another one of his masterpieces.
