Watch the Trailer1st of all, let me just say when I go to bed at night, I still think about certain scenes in this film. This doesn’t mean the movie was fantastic because to me…it wasn’t. Pretty much every scene in the trailer was the good parts in the film. “They” are calling this film the scariest or the best horror film of all times. Uh, no…no it’s not. The scenes were too repetitive. I’m sure I’m in the minority with my ratings, but it is what it is. Let me know if you dig it or not.
Anyhoo, Paranormal Activity revolves around Micah (Micah Sloat) and Katie (Katie Featherston), a young couple who live together in a very nice home. Katie has the misfortune of having some kind of evil entity that’s followed her most of her life. Her man Micah has a bright idea to video tape their time in the home during the day and especially at night to see if they can capture this paranormal activity. Home boy sets up the camera on a tripod and just let s it roll at night. Now, from the trailer you’ll see some freaky crazy movement with sheets and the door moving, but you don’t see anyone. Those scenes are creepy creepy.
Okay, there’s the movie. I’m kind of being bad. There are more things that happen, but Paranormal drags. The scenes are redundant as heck with Katie crying, or the tape time rolling and frankly, I was highly disappointed in the film. I just thought there would be more juice, more action and scenes with the evil presence in the midnight hour. There wasn’t. You just have Micah persistently wanting to tape Katie and when they sleep. First of all, if I were Micah, I would be thinking, “An evil spirit or whatever follows my woman Katie? Well, she’s just going to be my friend and see-ya- later baby.” Please, instead this fool wants to be your typical jackass and thinks he can do something by taping weird stuff. Now is it me, or does he sound stupid?

Even though I thought Micah was dumb I did like his role. He was comical, engaging and acted quite real. The film came off totally as non-scripted and full of improvisation. I found this to be less robotic and quite natural. Katie was okay, but she truly started to get on my dag on nerves by halfway through the movie.
Another one of my issues is the style of flick it is. I’m so sick of the so called “footage found” kind of movies. How many more are there going to be? I do like them, but come on now, be original. I did giggle a bit when a young woman behind me was so scared because she thought this all really happened. I guess if you would believe or think it's real, it will make this film much more enjoyable. I was always waiting for something good to happen and it never really did until 3/4ths of the film was done.
Paranormal was just okay. I wasn’t totally frightened while watching the movie but when Reel Husband went out of town and I was all alone for a couple of nights right after seeing this film, I kept two bright lights on and woke up roughly about every couple of hours.
I would argue this movie would be MUCH scarier if you rented it. Turn out the lights, put in the DVD and watch Paranormal right before bed. I suspect the silence and soft creeks in your house, coupled with having just seen a horror movie that makes no attempt to be unrealistic, will be cause to turn on a night light. Or for some, every light in the house.
